OK here's a question.

I have a book I bought from Metropolis comics. (Tomahawk 117) They claimed it was from the Boston pedigree. When I submitted the book, CGC stated that it didn't pass the smell test. Didn't smell like Boston, nor match the page quality.

I don't want to get my money back from Metropolis. I would just like to research the book and see if it was legitimately from the Boston Pedigree.

Didn't Bechara Maalouf find the Boston pedigree. Does anyone know if he has a list of books found with grades.

That actually is a new pedigree for me. I've heard of it, but don't know much about it. Bechara is pretty accessible if you want to ask him though.

You could also check out Matt Nelson and Stephen Ritters comicpedigrees.com website. They are focusing on golden age pedigree collections right now, but I am sure they have information for you.

Hey Scott, sorry for the late reply here. I have had many Boston Pedigree books, and I must tell you that CGC calls me all the time when folks submit Massachusetts and Bethlehem Pedigree books to verify authenticity, so I would guess it was more than a simple smell test they researched before making the decision that your Tomahawk book wasn't from the Boston Pedigree. Considering the quantity of books they certify, I was impressed at how careful Mark Haspel is about getting it right.

In addition, as it turned out on more than one occcasion, particularly with the Mass Pedigree where there was only 1 copy of each book, someone was trying to put one over on CGC.

At a professional level only, and for the sake of retaining Pedigrees, of course. They have their hands full with people who after manipulating books, remove Pedigree authentication in order to cover their tracks and the provenance of a book for the almighty buck.

Bechara Maalouf

People have widely varying opinions of Bechara, but I consider him a friend and have done business with him. I can't speak to the BC certs though.

I would say they are authentic Mitch, as I've seen them for perhaps as far back as 15 years or more though I'm not sure when the Boston collection surfaced. I must admit as I believe I told you, I have acquired some Boston books without these certificates, but I was convinced they were because the few that didn't had a very consistent look with the ones which did. The one question I've always had but never asked was why none of these certs ever had grades on them. From what I recall hearing, the Boston collection contained duplicate and even triplicate copies of the same book. In closing all I can say is I've known Bechara for 25 or more years and I've been convinced the certs are legit. I've only had raw copies of these books and all had nice rounded puffy spines. I'm sure he would gladly answer any questions about the collection if contacted.

Thx for the info, M&M. That’s good to know for the record.

Btw... I meant to post this earlier. Here's the BC book that goes with that cert...

Well, what do you expect?

After looking at several Green Rivers on Ebay offered by one of the original buyers of the collection, I'm in my 321st day of deliberation on them and this guy buys them right out from under me.

I mean, I had the sweat lodge all set up, I was dropping peyote buttons, I had my kachina doll in hand and I was about to make contact with the spirit of the OO and this guy snipes me right at the end!

Talk about cut-throat!

Marnin,

Was there ever a master list in existence of the books included in the Boston Pedigree Collection?

And when can we get a pedigree forum going in the public section?

I'm sure Bechara Maalouf has a complete list of the Boston Collection. Couldn't find a thing about it when Googled.

As we discussed, there's no reason a new Pedigree Category cannot be added at any time, however, I'm not ready to post the background stories to those collections I have been involved with.

I have 45 scans of books from the Boston Collection in my database.
