So, it's a cold and windy day here and I figure it's time to organize a bit. I am going through a mixed, unsorted box of stuff I've bought over the past several years and run into this... totally forgot I had it. Gotta love finding a gem you forgot you had! :yipeeeee:

I'm having a heck of a time finding ECs in my sweetspot. That is 5.0 - 7.0 copies that aren't ridiculously overpriced. I see the same copies on eBay listed again and again... VG copies with $100+ BINs.

Tell me about it. That's why when someone auctioned a bunch of Crypts on eBay, I snagged these two. Lower grade than most of my others (5.0-6.0), but for $130 shipped for both. Image

That's a good price.

I look for Crime and Shocks. 5.0 copies should be around $60 FMV give or take. When you rarely see them in auction format, that's where they land. Yet, it seems 95% of the listings are outrageously priced BINs that never sell.

It appears that many sellers are more interested in "listing" items than actually selling anything.

This is a nice copy of a tough book lately. :righton:

I've been looking for a nice copy of this book off and on for the last couple of decades. Should have bought a Gaines copy when I had the chance in the early 90s. Been regretting it ever since.

I'm new here but not new to comics. I'll post some of my books over the next week or so.

This just in. I've always loved this cover and I'm happy to add a bright copy that presents well to my collection.

People being digested in a puddle of alien slime. Love it!!

New here and late to the party once again! I'm just now discovering ECs and the incredible cover art. They're making me re-think my collection focus. Nice books everyone.

I love ECs and they are addictive. another advantage is there is nothing wrong with a mid grade EC. IMO I don't feel te same "grade pressure" I do with Silver Age and newer books.

ECs rock. I tend to like the mid-to-later issues, where the art and writing really reached their peak. Some of my favorite issues:

Weird Fantasy #21 (gorgeous Williamson/Frazetta cover, outstanding Ray Bradbury story by Severin/Elder)

Weird Science #21, Weird Science-Fantasy #23-25 (excellent art & stories all around)

Shock Suspenstories #9 (Carrion Death by Reed Crandall, Bradbury's October Game by Kamen)

Shock Suspenstories #11 (great Wood story about racial prejudice)

Shock #6, 12 (amazing covers)

Crime Suspenstories #22 (obvious reasons)

Crime #18-20, #23 (more exc. stories & covers)

You really can't go wrong with any of them though. Awesome books...

I'm starting to do my research now so, I'll know what I should be paying. I'll be happy with mid-grade books. I really want to get my hands on my first EC.

Collecting the originals is a lot of fun, but you can also pick up the Gladstone reprint TPBs from the 1990s if you just want to dive into the stories and get your feet wet quickly. I see them pretty cheap on ebay now and then.

Thanks! I probably will pick up some of the reprints, as the dollar signs add up. I will focus on the originals of my favorite covers - and there are a lot of them!

My first EC!!!

I felt like I was holding a piece of history when I read it. Incredible art, great stories - plus the added fun of reading stories written in the 50s.

Congrats on the pickup! :righton:

My favorite ECs are the ones with Ray Bradbury stories (RIP). His writing has a richness to it rarely seen in comic stories, and seemed to push the artists to really give their best.

Thanks! I know what you mean about Ray Bradbury's writing; his stories got me hooked on sci-fi when I was young.

Here is one that came today! I just couldn't resist the cover on this one. I'm bummed about the writing on the cover, but the rest of the book looks great.
