:applause: Let's see it!

And I was actually thinking of Forrest, who also has one. Tec #39s for everybody! :score:

 Yeah, only a 3-month turn around for a response. Wow, 15-yard penalty, personal foul.

But Job is right--I'm a really, really big fan of Tec 39. The rich and warm colors of the cover never fail to impress me, especially when you consider how so many of the other covers of the time tend towards a more bright, contrasting presentation. It's a big more of an authentic picture too, versus the more campy Tec 38. Then add in the fact that you can get a low grade copy of this for $500-900 as opposed to the thousands you'll pay for just one issue earlier... and it's a good deal all around.

I have a general rule of not posting before 9:00am on message boards. Can you guess why? lol

I can't think of what this turkey could have done to make Donald so mad! It's cooked already.

Well, Donald is pretty generally peeved in these early issues... not quite the happy-go-lucky chap he became in the 1950s.

Here's WDCS #18, an ebay book I'm waiting on. Fun cover and a pretty unusual background color...

Edit: got the #18 but it was missing 2 centerfolds, so back to the seller it went. In the meantime, a WDCS #17 came in, and here it is!

That is one thing you could count on with the Duck books, fun covers that have very colorful backgrounds. They really tried to stand out on the shelves back in the day.

Very true!

I've got lots more early WDCSs to post, just haven't had enough time to scan... but hoping to fix that shortly. Stay tuned. :righton:

Here's WDCS #13... which captures that anything-goes early-GA spirit, with an offensive, dumbass cover gag complemented by art that looks like it was knocked out on the train ride up to the Disney office. Even so, I can't help kinda liking it.

And on the other end of the cover-art spectrum, here's WDCS #19. Lovely fluid drawing and IMO a gorgeous color scheme. I love the airbrush-effect fades around the characters... they only did that on a couple of issues. One of my favorites.

By the way, I notice the hit counter on this thread moves up another 20 or 30 views every day. (Sometimes I think it does better when I stay away.) Glad someone out there is reading! You lurkers are most welcome to chime in, whether in this or in any other thread.

What a change in comics! They had Wolverine stop smoking in comics because they thought it was a bad influence on the youngins but here is Donald making his nephews do it in order to commit fraud! That cover never would have been done today.

I agree with you on #19. What a great cover! I like the subtle use of 3-D with the rooster tail weaving through the logo. Very nice books!

Thanks Mike! Yeah, the cover of #13 is insane. As you say, it would never see the light of day today.

If you liked #19's cover, something tells me you're going to like #20 as well. :) Really wonderful war effort cover, with similarly hot colors and that same airbrush effect...

Wow! That red must have really stood out on the stands brand new! I wonder why they didn't continue that effect around his legs and feet? That is a great war effort cover by the way.

WDCS #21, as yet another cover artist tries their hand at Donald. I like the silly cover pun...

I foolishly sold my WDCS #22 (classic flag cover)... still looking for a new copy. Here's #23... nice art and another very unusual color scheme.

Man, seeing all these books makes me want to start collecting them! Although, I think I'd have to start with Uncle Scrooge. Two great books!

:righton: You can't go wrong with the early duck books. The Scrooges are a great place to start... really epic stories by Barks, and my impression is the prices for nice reader copies are a lot softer than they used to be.

Here's WDCS #25. They did these schoolhouse-with-Donald-as-teacher covers to death as the run got going. This is the first one...

You know, I just noticed that your really can't tell Huey, Dewey and Louie apart in the early covers. Their clothes were colored the same. I wonder when that switched over?

 Cheers all... here come some more ducks. (I was trying to post the ones I have in order, but I keep forgetting to scan #26... will post it later.)

By way of an answer, here is WDCS #30. I never noticed that, but you're right! It's around this issue that they start consistently getting colored differently. Really great 'homefront' war cover, another fave of mine.

Here's WDCS #31. This one is something of a key, featuring the first Carl Barks story in WDCS. Another charming war bonds cover.

And here's that straggler WDCS #26. Great football cover... I love that old-style uniform Donald is wearing.

WDCS #32. 2nd Barks interior story... and if you don't think this cover is cute, check yourself for a pulse.

Yea, though the life of a duck collector is a lonely one, we will post on. :geek: I'll show what I've got up to issue #50, then call it a day with these.

Here's WDCS #34. Great "Gremlins" cover with interior story by Walt Kelly, who starts ramping up his involvement in the title... he contributes some terrific covers through the 1940s run.

WDCS #37... Guide value plunges on this issue because there's no Barks interior story, but the bizarrely malicious Donald Duck cover makes this a fave of mine. (Love the bits on the blackboard too.)

WDCS #39... Charming Christmas cover, though you may get a bit seasick from the odd miscut.

Thanks for the kind comment. :righton:

It's probably worth noting at this point that the vast majority of my GA books -- probably around 75-80% -- have come from ebay. I understand why a lot of folks have issues with ebay, but at the end of the day it's got a selection that no dealer can match, and there are some real bargains to be had if you're patient.
