Just watched Kick Ass.

:yowza:

Wasn't expecting much, but I really, really enjoyed it. Anyone else see it?

I've seen it... twice  , and I might watch it again after reading your post. It was a great movie.

I'm hoping for a Hit Girl spinoff. :yipeeeee:

Just saw this on DVD and I thought the same thing(s). I hope they make a 5-minute prequel/sequel that shows us BabyDoll's dance. :sinister:

I watched it on DVD last week and also thought it was fairly boring.

I read the trade and was pretty turned off by the violence, especially the kid violence. I decided not to watch the movie, but maybe it wasn't as bad as the comics??? Any comments?

I have to completely disagree on this. I thought it was very disturbing that an author would even think of writing a story with a violent little kid going around killing people. I find it kind of sad that his imagination is so weak that he has to resort to this kind of stuff in an effort to attract readers.

I've never read the comics, so I don't have a comparison. I will say that the movie was violent. Hit Girl (the youngest) is, without a doubt, violent and a kid... but she mostly beats on adults.

Like I said above, I'm unaware of how the comics portrayed the violence, but I looked at it as redemption and vengence more so than just needless acts of violence. The fact that Hit Girl was a youth, to me, simply added to how cool it was to see that she was a bad ass fighter.
No more disturbing to me than seeing Macaulay Culkin fighting the burglars in Home Alone, just less slapstick... and blood.

I must admit I was a fan of the comic because I am a fan of black humour. This is only suitable for adults if you enjoy the macabre. However, I see it as VERY different to the Home Alone series. In no way does the violence result in death and gore. Kickass is extreme and intentionally so. I think if you enjoy seeing social norms pushed it will work, but everyone has their limits. For me I still find the over sexualisation of children in comics disturbing. Sometimes I am a little shocked by anime in particular, despite being a fan.

I wouldn't say that the author's imagination is weak for trying to do the unexpected. To me weak would be another cookie cutter "Punisher" type character that acted in the exact same way. Comics have more than enough of those already.
I liken it to Stephen King's use of children in "Children of the Corn", "Pet Semetary" and "It" as well as William Golding's use of children in "Lord of the Flies". Neither of which I would label as sad or unimaginative.

Different strokes for different folks.

I recall these types of comments when the film first came out, and I was a bit hesitant to watch it because of the negative comments to this nature. I do not take kindly to the type of "humor" where we see small children using profane language, etc.

But, I will admit, the movie won me over. There was no sexualization of children, but plenty of profanity and violence. The character is obviously a nod to the sidekick in Frank Miller's Dark Knight.

Nicholas Cage was great as well.

Cage was AWESOME :applause: It was the best i have ever seen him (as I usually hate him in everything he does). I laughed so hard at his Big Daddy voice which I refer to affectionately as 'The William Shatner voice'. :hilarious:

I was going to ask the same thing. I liked Jason Momoa in Stargate: Atlantis, but what I've seen of the Conan movie so far isn't spectacular.

Maybe it's just the channels I am watching, but it doesn't seem like they are promoting it that much. I've seen maybe a handful of TV ads and they really didn't give enough to make a judgement one way or another.

I don't know where this trailer was made, but they are making the movie. I think they started filming in the spring and it will take 2 to 3 years to complete.

Has anyone seen Death Valley on MTV yet? They have had two episodes so far. It is a show like Cops but they go after zombies, vampires, and werewolves. It is a comedy/horror mix. So far I think it is pretty good.

Well, a little indie-film call the Avengers debuted this weekend? Did anyone happen to go see it?

Here is a little clip from a story I saw about it on Yahoo...

"That raised the film's worldwide haul to $641.8 million in barely a week and a half, more than its Marvel superhero forerunners "Iron Man," ''Iron Man 2," ''Thor" and "Captain America" took in during their entire runs."

So, it raised more in a week and a half than those four did for their entire runs!? WOW!!!

I must say, I thought I liked Joss Whedon's stuff before, I was absolutely blown away by this movie! I thought he did about as much as he could giving each of the main characters their moments. The lines that were meant to be funny just fit perfectly every time. As a Hulk fan, all I can say is FINALLY! They got him right! My son didn't like Mark Ruffalo (?) as Bruce Banner but I didn't think it was too bad. I did have one big complaint that almost made me walk out of the movie..

Hawkeye is left-handed!? Seriously!? They couldn't find an actor that could shoot a bow right-handed!? Come on! As a southpaw myself I was insulted that they could make such an obvious mistake! Like we are REALLY supposed to believe that someone can shoot a bow that good with their left hand. Where was the research on the character!? Its like they just phoned it in.

Anyway, I highly, highly recommend this movie. I think it will rank up there as one of the best super-hero movies of all time.

(Oh, and just so you know, I never even noticed that Hawkeye was left-handed in the movie. My son pointed it out and I went all "fanboy" on him about it.)

I went with my wife yesterday since she hadn't seen it yet. Although, she is reluctant to say it is better than Iron Man (which she felt had a better overall story plus RDJ's performance as Tony Stark just being so spot on), she really did enjoy it.

There is a part with Thor and Hulk that she really liked. I won't spoil it but when you see it, you'll know.

Also, there are TWO scenes after the movie! One in the beginning of the credits and one at the very end. Don't miss them!

I watched a few movies recently:

John Carter - Good, fun, kid friendly movie that everyone should see. Excellent special effects. I liked seeing it on the big screen.

Conan - Also a good, fun movie, although not for kids (gratuitous violence and some sex). This is more of a DVD rental. You really noice how the movies try and write the same story over and over. The premise of Conan is that he lives in the moment and isn't hampered by the trappings of power and possessions. He is more noble than the Nobles of 'civilized' society. In the movie they just had to have him born in the middle of a battle (some kind of devine right to being a kick ass warrior) and later have his father killed to set up the revenge angle (just like so many other movies). They did play to his character a little as he wasn't willing to settle down with the girl in the end, but had to follow his own path. Unfortunately, I only picked up on this because I have read all the books (the Howard ones at least).

Priest - I picked this up one weekend when my wife was away and figured it probably wouldn't be very good, but I was pleasantly surprised. Nothing deep, but good character development, concept and action.

Daredevil - I rewatched Daredevil for the first time in a while and have to say that I don't understand why everyone panned it. It is really a kung fu movie rather than a superhero movie, which may have turned some people off???? I thought that they stayed true to the original stories and tried to develop the personal side of DD as much as possible in 90 minutes. If anything, they should have made it 20 minutes longer to help develop the characters more. It might have been better if Kingpin was more involved so we would hate him more and the Elektra resurrection went completely unexplained. The comic story where DD new Elektra in the past and after her father died she went away and trained with the Hand made more sense. Still, a movie I'll watch again, even if he doesn't wear an iron suit.
