Has anyone been reading the new Dark Horse revival of the Gold Key characters?

GREAT stuff. Jim Shooter is writing all of them and so far, they are terrific. The art is not flashy, but solid and quite pleasing. The stories are rock solid, of course. Highly recommended. :righton:

BTW, The Mighty Sampson #1 came from DCBS with some writing on it...

I am more interested to see how long it will be before Shooter alienates himself again.

What is it with him anyway?

Is he really difficult to work with? Or is it a matter of him being uncompromising artiscally?

Well by all accounts he is hard to work with/for but he might put it as he is uncompromising artistically. I don't mind him but I have avoided getting into stuff he is a part of just because I fear that it will all be over before it has really started. The guy has great skill, like Alan Moore, but it is a crying shame they are difficult people because ultimately it is the fans that pay the price.

Mighty Sampson #2 was pretty good. Co-written by CBCA advisor JC Vaughn. :applause:

This month's previews has a rant by Shooter in the Dark horse section. You can pretty much get and idea of why he might be hard to work with from that.

I will see if I can get a photo or scan of it posted. He doesn't say anything really controversial (in fact some people might agree with him) but it is self-righteous piece. As in only I know what works in the comic market, oh and my buddy here at DH.

This may be slightly old news, but I have just learned the "Gold Key" Dark Horse titles have been cancelled. :((

This is very disappointing. I was really enjoying these titles and they were the first I read when the new comic box arrived each month.

:argh:

I read on CBR website that Valiant comics is coming back in 2012. Maybe the Gold Key characters will wind up there again.

It's my understanding that Valiant includes the Valiant created characters such as Eternal Warrior, X-O, Archer & Armstrong, etc.

I suppose they could attempt to license the Gold Key characters from Classic Media as Dark Horse did. However, from what I gather, it's pretty expensive and you lose a lot of creative control.

One thing I did notice in the Dark Horse versions is that there was sexual content. The bad guys were shown in scenes that contained S&M, torture of naked people, etc. I can't help but wonder if this caused displeasure with Classic Media and is the source of the "increasing interference from Classic Media into the content of the comics" as Shooter stated.

:wonder:
