I don't see anything in the pedigree section showcasing or discussing Golden Age books so I figured I would start one. I have never really paid a premium for a Pedigree book but I am not opposed to it if the right book came along :geek: over the years like most...I have really wanted to get my hands on a nice high grade Mile High but alas the funds were never available so I once purchased a 7.0 that wasn't very exciting even though it had a descent cover....it has since been sold as it didn't hold any magic for me like I guess a high grade masterpiece would :???

Hopefully one day I can scrape up a few grand and get a better example :yipeeeee:

Anyway....a pedigree I am found of and seem to run across a lot and don't usually pay any premium for is the crippen D copies......which i own a few of currently:

this one is now slabbed an 8.0 and although not desirable to most...it's is extemly difficult to find and I was lucky to snag this copy off ebay several years ago...

and finally one of my personal favoriate covers...

oh found one more I bought out of a haritage auction and it's still raw...Rockford pedigree...

I have the Davis Crippen "D" copy of Detective Comics 42 (2.5 GD+) in my GA thread. The pedigree was a simple coincidence (as I don't really care one way or the other about them) but the cover is :righton: for me!

I have never heard of cookville? You just have to love action comics from the Golden Age....super books. I believe have a raw book with that same L as on your detroit trolley copy :?: Wonder if it's just a coincedence or if it's possible from that pedigree...God knows where it is but I will have to look

I have noticed the letter L on other books that are not Detrtoit Trolley's. Neither the Cookeville or Trolley pedigrees are recognized by CGC.

Interesting.....I call the L the laverne & shirley due to the style and my book has the same style but I don't know if there are other indicators as to whether a certain book originated from a specific pedigree. For mile high's there are....not sure about other books.

Marnin Rosenberg handled all of the sales of the Detroit Trolleys. You could check out his archives of past sales here:

I was waiting for you to respond!

Seriously, of the major criteria advanced for the declaration of a pedigree ... which ones do you think Cookeville meets?

I know you've got a vested interest in it, but as an objective observer who's really mulled the pedigree designation issue ... I don't think it comes within ten miles of meeting the requirements of a pedigree.

There isn't enough info in the article to make a decision. Is there a more detailed description elsewhere?

1) ORIGIN
A pedigreed collection must have been accumulated by one individual during the time the comics were released on the newsstand.

No real information about this. The "name" on the books look suspiciously like the Lamont Larsen books.

2) QUALITY
A pedigreed collection must primarily consist of high quality comic books.

So far, of the few samples seen, the grades are average at best, with one or two exceptions.

3) COMPLETENESS
A pedigreed collection must contain a substantial number of key or rare issues, or represent a significant portion of a particular genre, company, period, or classic title/character.

No list of these books has been made public, as far as I know. Grade ... incomplete.

4) MARKET ACCEPTANCE
CGC and the collecting community must continue to recognize the pedigree name of a collection past the point of initial sale.

So far that's a no.
