Absolutely amazing that the original wrapper is still on that. It must be one of a kind. :applause:

That's probably the one I'm remembering. In doing a google search for it I saw one sold at Hake's for $115. maybe a pressing is not a bad idea. :)

Very happy to just add this to my collection. :yipeeeee:

Casey was famous for signing these on the front and back. Also helps with authenticity as forgers are highly unlikely to try to forge entire sentences.

you have the best collection of autographs I have ever seen. I saw this yard sale in a VFW in my small town and one gentelman had piles of signatures. I just do not know what I am looking at (Real/Fake) to make heads or tales of the collection. he had everyone you could name for the last 100 years

Thanks, Paul.

Relatively speaking, my autograph collection is probably superior to my comic collection. It is decent, but it is far from a world class collection. With autographs you don't see such a focus on condition. There typically isn't a 500% variation in value due to minor condition issues.

They are like my kids, I could not pick one over the other. I suppose the comics ring more of a nostalgia bell for me pertaining to childhood, and the autographs appeal more to the adult side with a focus on history and sports.

This is one of my favorite presidential items. My favorites are probably the Reagan signed books inscribed to me, but this is a close second. Signed a year before I was born...

I received this through-the-mail directly from Ali in January 2000. I sent the photo.

I knew it wasn't a forgery or an Autopen, but wanted to confirm it wasn't a secretarial. I just had it authenticated by a leading Ali expert. The result: authentic. :yipeeeee:

A gorgeous, bold signature. Scary to think how much authentic Ali signatures go for these days...

I don't really collect anything else the way I do comics. I do have some vinyl LPs, lots of movies (on DVD and HD media), lots of CDs, and some paperback book series but, like I already mentioned I do not collect them in the same way or for the same reason as comics.

Steve, that is obviously a fake. Why don't you send it to me because I collect fake sigs. I'm more than happy to take it off your hands.

It is a great item Steve! The ball looks to be in great shape too. Very nice pick-up! :righton:

:ooops:

I actually bought it from a baseball memorabilia message board for sale section. Like our Comic X-Change and the CGC sales section, other hobbies have similar setups. And much like here and at CGC, you can get great deals from very reliable collectors/dealers.

This ball with a reputable COA from JSA, PSA or Richard Simon would go for around $400 - $500 on eBay. I was able to get it for less than that.

Speaking of selling stuff, I have my eyes on a major grail and I am going to have to cut deep to raise some funds. I'll be posting some goodies in the Comic X-Change in the near future. I just need to get stuff scanned.

Koufax is not nearly as common as most living HOFers and he would avoid the spotlight, but not a total recluse. Up until about 7 - 8 years ago, he would sign at one or two shows a year. He'd sign for around $50 a pop, which was pretty decent considering humps like Rickey Henderson charge $175 a signature.

In recent years he hasn't done any shows, but Steiner Sports Marketing got their hooks into Koufax. Koufax signed balls are around $500 on the Steiner site.

Makes me laugh when I think how people were outraged at the time Mickey Mantle was charging like $30 a signature.

As some of you may know, I recently sold some of my bronze X-Men slabs as well as a few other books. I did this to raise the funds for a grail that I've wanted for a long time. I decided it was time to stop procrastinating and just do it. So here it is...

 As a bonus, it came with a JSA letter of authenticity that rated the signature a "10"... the highest rating for signature quality.

And I had enough funds left over to get this as well...

I distinctly recall sitting in my Grandmother's kitchen while Gunsmoke played on her little TV. I was probably 4 ... around 1972.

I'd really like to add a Ruth signature to my collection, but you are looking at a minimum $3,500 for a signed card with credible authentication. I'd have to part with a Marvel Silver Age key or two for that, and I'm not ready to make that jump.

David, you will be the first one I call if I want to get rid of the Mantle, but it will likely be a long time.

If you are really interested, here is a comparable pose and signature on ebay now:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 911wt_1139

The seller has listed it a few times with no bids. It is as good as gold, but the market these days demands third party authentication... so this sits with no bids at $164. Put a JSA COA on this and it's a $300 photo. :secret:
