Any suggestions? I've never shipped out of the US so this should be interesting.

BTW. I'm not looking for info on "how to pack comics for shipping". I mean as far as customs (or does it matter?). Where's Boozad when you need him (I know - he's not from Canada).

I sent a book to Canada recently. I just sent it the same as sending to the US. I was advised that if the book was stated to be of significant value, that it might be heavily taxed.

You can ship to Canada using the US Postal Service. I'm not sure which way is the best, but it usually costs me about $18 to have a slab shipped up here in a box and it takes 1 to 2 weeks. When you mail the package you will have to fill out a customs declaration with the value of the contents and the person receiving it will be charged about 13% for packages over $100 (they can charge the value-added tax on any amount, but don't usually bother for less than $100). If you insure the package, the insured value automatically goes onto the customs declaration, i.e. you can't insure for $500 and declare $50.

Basically, it is the same as mailing within the US except that it is more expensive and you have to complete the customs form.

I'm returning one book and the seller has said he would pay the return S&H. Thanks for the information.

An Avengers issue, maybe? :wonder:

Yes. It's actually somewhat amusing. He didn't want to send "free books" and he "stands behind his grading". He asked that I wait until Monday (I think he was at a con this weekend) so he doesn't have to spend something "ridiculous" on shipping. He could have sent ANYTHING and I would have called it good (I'm easy) which I'm guessing would have cost less than refunding me for the book (plus S&H) and have a "possibly" trimmed book. I can't complain (yet), but I doubt I'll buy anymore books from outside the US again.

You shouldn't let one bad experience put you off of international transactions. The best thing to do is to deal with people that you know have a good reputation. I'm sure that you can get plenty of good recommendations here. I can highly recommend Nick Beckett (also known as Flaming Telepath) over here in the UK. His grading and customer service are second to none.

What is the story with this transaction? I have sent many packages to the US without any problems. Canada Post is more expensive that the USPS, but our population base supporting the service is also 1/10th the size in a bigger country. At C$1.50 to the US dollar I could discount shipping 33% for US buyers, but at 1.05 that is over.
