Green Lantern 76 is just nuts. Here's a midgrade copy... can't be better than a 6.0 with that spine stress and diagonal crease... and it's at $666 with over 2 hours to go!

:omfg:

What other Bronze book can drive this kind of pricing in midgrades? Has GL 76 now de-throned Hulk 181 as the King of the Bronze age?

:?:

It does seem as if it's dethroned Hulk # 181 at the moment, the question is will it have the staying power of Hulk # 181 to hold the spot over the next couple of years?

There is a Hulk 181 on the same site which looks to be around the same grade also listed currently at $454.

I think the Hulk #181 would be the much better investment (but I'm biased like that  ). Did you notice that the winning bidder so far had a 100% bid activity with this seller and ran the price up from $300? Could be a case of shilling but who knows. :dd:

The GL 76 sold for $865 (wow). A search of his recently completed sales shows the same book (didn't appear much worse) sold a couple of weeks ago for $172.50.

The winning bidder does have 100% activity with this seller... and did seem to keep nudging the price higher and higher in small increments. 27 bids on 4 items. :wonder: Was it shilling and he went one step too far in trying to squeeze out a few more bucks?

Even so, the next highest bidder topped out at $745... which is still a staggering sum for a midgrade copy of this book.

Yup... this closed at $165 more than I paid for my CGC 8.0 copy of Hulk 181. :noway:

Honestly, I'm not even sure why GL 76 is a key. :??? "New direction" or Adams art or whatever the reason is, I don't think it has the staying power to drive pricing like this long term. It's not a first issue or first appearance. And GL and Green Arrow aren't exactly Tier 1 characters (sorry Richard! )

Whereas, Hulk 181 is the first appearance of arguably the most popular character of the past 40 years... and it has the Hulk. Two Tier 1 characters.

My money is on 181 long term.

Personally, I don't see much difference between GL 76 and DD 158 except for the date of publication. When you think that DD 158 in mid-grade can be had pretty much for free and even a 9.4 goes for only $150, this seems way over the top.

That is actually a very good comparison! :righton: I need to start looking for more DD #158's!
