The good: White pages and really nice gloss. Perfect corners. The Bad: Crease along the LRFC. In hand it doesn't appear to break color (not sure how much that matters). A few ticks along the edges with one on the top staple (BC). I may have it squished (does Brent take a look at pics or do you have to send it straight to him) and I'm thinking about sending this in to get slabbed (I have 3 free ones as a member), so a grade from 1 - 10 would be appreciated. Thanks.

There's the spine stress that you mentioned and some wear on the bottom edge but the killer is the big crease in the bottom right of the cover which looks quite nasty from the scan but it might be exagerated by the scan. I would say it was a FN+ or FN/VF (6.5 or 7.0) depending on how bad the crease looks in hand.

I'm personally not a fan of pressing but speaking impartially, I don't think that pressing will help the defects that I can see on this comic.

Depending on how the crease looks on hand I was leaning toward a Fine 6, maybe a Fine+ 6.5.

I pretty much got the same response on the CGC board which unfortunately means this is one book that will be going back. Thanks.

I agree for the most part, but I'd have a hard time going above 5.0/5.5 with a long bend/light crease like that. With that flaw, pressing out small defects won't matter... it's going to hit a ceiling due to the bend.

I based my grade on highradart saying that the bend doesn't break colour in hand. If his scanner is like mine, it amplifies defects so that they show a lot worse than they are. I think if it's a non colour breaking bend it could make a FN+ anyway.

I'd have to agree there Steve.

I agree that scanners tend to amplify light creases on dark covers. Kinda like shining a light on a reflective road marker on a dark night. It appears brighter and bigger than it is.

:righton:

Put this one back in the mail today. The OO had it as a NM. He asked what I'd be willing to pay for it - lets just say he didn't accept my offer. In this case the amount I paid was worth the effort to send it back and get a full refund. :D

NM? Good grief, did you ask him how NM books can come with a big bend/crease in them?

I think the guys old school and has a few books he's had forever that he's tryin to sale. He claims he bought them himself and they've been bagged since. So I didn't really say much except that with the crease the best the book would get was maybe a 7.0. I did notice he lives in Saugerties, NY (which is real close to Woodstock) which might explain why he thinks it's NM - too many fried brain cells (that's a joke for those who may have actually went to Woodstock - besides, I'm not even sure that's where Woodstock took place). :stircrazy: He's been real nice about it though - so I wished him luck.
