Kirby was always great at depicting villains sitting imperiously at some sort of ornate throne.

I like Kirby's work, but I can see why he never drew Spidey.

They do look a little neon-ish, don't they? I'll check my copy.

Brad

[I adjusted the contrast - it was a little blown out - this is closer to what the book looks like now.]

Horrible.

Send it to me... it's not worthy of your collection.

Spidey requires a fluidity that wasn't Kirby's strong suit. While Kirby was dynamic and could convey power, fluidity is not the same.

Ditko was perfect for Spidey.

I'd be happy to own either of those! They present very well for the technical grade.

I'd like to pick up #2 one of these days.

How bad do the staple indentions on the cover affect the grade on these books?

CGC usually gives them a pass except for on very high grade books. This book is a 9.0 in my estimation, so I don't think it would impact at all at this level.

It seems as though it's really a production issue, as books with this issue looked like this the moment it was bundled off the press. The same can be said for the small poke holes sometimes caused by the staples on squarebounds.

OK...Here's one of mine. I sent this in before I knew "squishin" books even existed (not sure if that was a good thing or not, but with several spots along the edge I doubt it would have been worth it).

I have a Silver Surfer #1 that is a sure-fire 9.0/9.2... except it has a dot of rust on one staple with a tiny dot of transfer. I wonder how it would grade out...

Not high grade, but solid, and a super read.
