It is hard to believe that no one has started this type of thread so I'll kick it off.

Sooooooo nice for the grade!

I'm not sure why anyone would want a higher grade than this - perfectly square, perfectly wrapped, perfectly clean, white back cover.

Well, this was my newest purchase, obtained from Brent's private collection a few years ago.

I believe at one time Brent had 5 HG copies of this book, and told me this was the best one he'd ever seen with the least Pre-Marvel chipping, and traded a NM+ 9.6 to get this book. Most importantly, it hasn't been restored. That convinced me to buy it. :righton:

You can get scanners very reasonably on eBay.

How have you avoided any SA in your collection?

Well, I dislike Kirby and Ditko, and camp, and silly sci-fi, and they influenced so much of the Silver Age that I have pretty much just ignored it... It is only in the last couple of years that I have seen some examples of books from that era that I like, but I already had my collecting goals kinda sorta mapped out, so there hasn't really been much room for Silver Age spending... This one I just happened on, for REALLY cheap :D

It might start a trend... Just what I need, an expanded focus for my collection Image

I never owned a copy of this book. Now I own a Green River copy. Purchased as a CGC'd 8.5, I broke it out to read it. Yes, you heard me right. I read the book! Fun!

Nice book and perfect stamp placement!

:applause:

Never saw that cover before... :righton:

I really like the Annuals and King Sizers that had the year below the issue number.

Picking up some of these during the spring and summer of the following year, 1967 were among my best early collecting memories. :-)

Too bad the date stamped wasn't June 6 .... that would have been the actual 22nd Anniversary of the D-Day invasion.

This arrived today....

Green River copy of Fantastic Four #38

Beautiful book, except for the ding on the black sphere .... and some upper staple indenting. The ding is probably from the infamous bb gun ... if stacked, this might have been under the FF36 on my site which took more of the brunt of the bb.

Otherwise, the book is gorgeous. There was only one copy of this book in the collection and I've tracked it for six years, and recognized it when I saw it on Ebay without designation. Same stamp as the Sgt. Fury #17 on my site.

In the date stamp, the month and the year have a sans serif font, yet the numbers are serif. Was this common in date stamps?

Well, I have no idea. I suppose somewhere out there, there is a person who collects old date stampers. I also suppose just looking at a collection of date stamped comics from different places would tell you.

Maybe the serif is to make the number more readable, even if part of it is obscured or mis-stamped. The month isn't as important or as easy to mess up.
