Book would be NM- except for a light tanning halo on the inside of the covers which darkens in the middle of the spine (see back cover scan). Pages are OW.

8.0/8.5. Is the cover brittle due to the halo? It looks pretty dark.

Not brittle, just discoloured.

If it's as dark as the scan looks, I'd probably knock it down to at least 8.0... maybe lower. :2sad:

Are you sure it's not a stain from handling? Looks like a sweaty palm stain.

I also see an impact about 1 1/2" down from the top spine on the b/c scan. True?

Actually a NCB crease.

Higher res scans have been added.

Thanks Mike. Though the higher res scans are not as helpful as Steve's scan in the X-Men #102 thread, I will reluctantly assess the grade a VF+ 8.5 entirely due to the b/c toning or dirt or whatever it is. Again that might be a little generous, but without holding the book in hand I can't really be sure.

I scanned them at 400 dpi rather than 200 dpi. Should I have done it even higher?

At 400 -- or even 200 -- dpi the image should be huge.

:?: :?: :?:

I scan at 100 dpi / 100%.

* Is your scanner scanning at 100%? Perhaps it's set to something less.
* is your photobucket account set to accept an image size large enough? If your Photobucket account is set for a smaller max image size, it may be automatically bumping them down when you upload. I set my photobucket account to accept up to a 1 meg image.

Marnin mentioned in the X-Men 102 thread that my image was 156 KB. On my hard drive it is almost 800 KB. The 400 dpi image is about 4 MB. I have to believe that the problem is with Photobucket cutting down the size. I'll try to change the settings and see what happens.

Well, in Photobucket the standard for a free account is 1MB per image, so that can't be the problem.
