Or did he ever stop?

Over a year ago, I had a post deleted on the CGC Board because I suggested there was nothing to stop Jason Ewert from selling books through consignment sites such as Comic Link. And in all likelihood, he was selling **somewhere**... does anyone really think that he just tossed his inventory out with the trash when he was "run out of town" by the Sheriff?

So now, fast forward to today.

A member 14 of Spades asserts that Ewert is selling again though Comic Link.

Can anyone confirm this information?

Is it just a rumor based on speculation, or does someone actually know?

I know it's been a long time since this thread had any replies, but I'd also like to know if Ewert is selling again, and if so, in what venue?

Well, a very reputable comic person told me that someone he trusted had proof. Apparently hthis person has never offered up the proof in public though so it's still hearsay.

I know exactly who you speak of. But being realistic. I would guess he never stopped, just had to find new venues to sell. Why would anyone even dobt it. I thought I had heard rumors of him being spotted at the C-Link booth.

I agree Pat, why would he stop when it's easy to carry on while just keeping a low profile?

My thing Garry is that I just realize what is wrong with the hobby, but accept what can not be avoided. I wouldnt dare doubt Ewert went away, and I wouldnt doubt dealers and auction houses shunned him.

I would think Ewert would be as toxic at a convention as Danny Dupcak. I would expect there to be a lynch mob with pitchforks and torches if he was seen publicly at San Diego(or wherever he supposedly was spotted).

Also, how would he able to submit books to CGC?

He could easily submit through a collectors society membership under another name.

Submitting to CGC would be easy. Ebay would be easy to use. He could submit to Clink through someone else. For that matter, he could submit books send books pretty much anywhere through someone else and it would be naive to think that there is no one who would do that for him.

The big rumor that no one wants to discuss publicly was that Ewert was allegedly seen on site at a ComicLink "preview night" (where the big boys get to check out the merchandise ahead of time to examine potential pressing candidates) in 2009.

Also, some CGC Board member was allegedly sent a Ewert invoice from ComicLink by mistake.

Some CGC Board members know all the details and the parties involved, but won't say anything explicit that would risk upsetting the apple cart.

If ever you feel like PMing those boardies names over Steve I'd appreciate it. If I know them well enough I'd like to know details, solely because I'd hate to end up buying from Ewert. All his crap was before my time back in collecting.

Now, didn't CGC say they can detect whatever method Ewert was using to trim books? Wouldn't this prevent him from submitting through a third party since whatever alterations he was/is making can be detected? I guess it wouldn't prevent him from selling raw books though.

Yes, and I can detect the good in peoples hearts from just reading their posts. CGC is full of crap, they like to pretend they can detect trimming but they cant. Ask Bob Siman about this, his OO ASM 121 came back as trimmed. He was the only owner ever..

Sorry, I don't have any experience with submitting to CGC and very little buying graded books. I guess that when you grade over 1,000,000 books that there will be some that they flat out just get wrong. But overall, it seems that the hobby has accepted them and their "grading standard" in general. I haven't heard anything to suggest that I shouldn't believe them when they say that they can detect trimming but, as I said, I have not dealt with them firsthand. :dunno:

Damn, that's discouraging.

I've checked through my archives and found a ton of revealing pm's and emails that I think have just about reached the statute of limitations. Since I left the apple cart parked by the side of the road a couple of years ago and have absolutely nothing to lose at this point, I'm going to have to consider presenting the hobby's version of the Pentagon Papers sometime soon.

And for the record ... I saved everything.

There does seem to be a wall of silence around certain events. The Ewert / CLInk rumors have been widely circulating for quite some time. Hard to tell if it's fabricated or someone is afraid to sing. Frankly, I don't see why someone would be afraid to reveal the information if it was true.
:dunno:

Not to be a total dick, but why would anybody have ever thought he stopped? Its not like there's a central clearinghouse or anything like it. I'm sure he's selling - I don't have insider knowledge - but there's no doubt in my mind he is.

Well, I've been saying since day one there is no way he just tossed his inventory into the trash and gave it up when Marshal Borock tried to run him out of town. I think most people would have bet he was selling through intermediaries or something like that.

However, the frustrating aspect is that some people claim to have evidence and claim to "know" specifics, yet won't divulge. :argh:

Hmm probably because at the time Steve Borock made a MAJOR deal of proclaiming that he had personally banished Jason from the hobby.

And because of reassuring statements from guys like Josh to the effect that Jason is NOT a consignor.

But of course the whole banishment thing never made any sense to me from the beginning anyway.

Anything to liven it up around here a bit. Pretty slow it seems.

I like to think that below the surface of CBCA beats the junkyard dog heart of NOD as it was originally envisioned. Consumer advocacy 110%.
