My iPod was stolen from my desk at work last Thursday night.   Now I am out a $225 iPod classic.

I work in a pretty decent professional office, but there are cleaners and maintenance people around all hours of the night. I'm mad at myself for being so complacent, and I'm even more pizzed at myself for letting some scumbag put one over on me.

I reported the incident to plant security today and waiting to hear back from them. It may be a long shot, but I'm asking if there is some way I can file a claim to get at least partial reimbursement. (When I worked in NYC things would sometimes go missing. Never happened to me, but I heard if it was above a certain amount, you could file a claim and get something back.)
:hope:

Since these things have unique serial numbers, I'm really surprised there isn't some way to ping them or capture info when they are sync-ed.

I looked online for a stolen iPod registry but could not find anything.

:dunno:

Sorry to read of your loss. Good Luck. Maybe someone returns it to you.

I've read that there is a very high theft rate in offices. People know and therefore trust all their co-workers, sometimes mistakenly.

Thanks, Paul.

I have the serial number, so I was thinking of calling local pawn shops and other places that buy used iPods. There's actually a kiosk in the mall nearby that buys used iPods, etc.

But, I'm not sure I would even want the same one back now. The thought of some scumbucket pawing it kinda grosses me out.

Sorry for your loss steve, It really does suck! this may be a long shot but have you checked your drawers and checked with reception (if you have one) and the cleaning/maintenance managers because u never know someone might have seen it and handed it in? its a long shot but i'm a optimist.

I have filed a report with campus security. Unfortunately, there is no chance it was "lost" or misplaced.

It was in a leather holder. The thief removed the iPod from the leather holder and put the holder back in my drawer. He also stuck the headphone jack into the hole in the top to make it look like it everything was kosher. I took it out the holder and headphones from the drawer. I flipped open the top... and it was empty.

I hate to be this way, but I look at the cleaning and maintenance people now suspiciously.

well its only natural to now be weary when something like that happens to you especially somewhere you previously felt was secure. Thieves really do annoy me i don't understand how they feel they have the right to take somethin that they havn't earned in my view if you want an ipod (or anything of value) that badly you save up for it!
