i just read that they are remaking total recall at first i thought Great! i love that film and the advances in special FX etc would really make it shine but then i heard.....Colin Farell is to be playing Quaid/Hauser. How do they think a skinny Irish dude is going to compare to Arnold Schwarzenegger? I'm once again severely disappointed in hollywood. Anyway just thought i'd have a rant and see if anyone else had any thoughts on the matter.

There isn't much point in remaking exactly the same movie. It will be different without a kick ass main character, but could still be good.

I agree i know they are rewriting it to make it more closely resemble the book and i in no way mean they shud use arnie again but i would of thought a muscular more action based actor would be a better choice like jason stathem or gerard butler for example.

Are there no new ideas in Hollywood?

Why remake a really good film? The bar has to be very high just to "break even" with the first. The odds of surpassing it are very low.

Not a fan of Colin Farell, so I'll probably pass on this one.

I agree. It's unnecessary to remake a really good film. I can see them remaking Total Recall though.

I think that Total Recall was a good film.... for it's time. I really liked it when it first came out but I watched it again a couple of years ago and it seems very dated now. I don't mean the special effects, it's the style of the film that seems so out of date and it could be a really good film for a remake.

As for whether it should be a muscular action hero that plays the part, The character seemed more like an espionage/spy role so a leaner actor could be a good fit.

i may just be biased about Colin Farell tbh and the fact that i grew up as a kid watching this film wit my dad, so to me it just feels wrong! i'll probably still go and see it mainly out of curiosity.

It's probably best to not think of it as a remake but as a completely different film, at least you won't have any expectations for it to live up to then and you might enjoy it. If you have great memories of a film then probably nothing is going to match up to the original for you because you won't have the emotional attatchment to it.

Then again, I'm no shrink so I'm probably talking crap. :heckle:

Might be worth checking out. Dynamite seems to put out a decent product.

I haven't read the Total Recall comic, but I completely share your sentiments with Jennifer Blood and new title releases in general.
This deserves its own topic.
