I just finished this one. I don't usually buy Batman but it's hard to resist a book drawn by Wrightson. I don't think his art in this is as old as they make it sound. His earlier work was a lot better imo. It's a quick read, which is a good thing for me these days.

I missed this somehow. Cover looks great. :righton: Certainly heads and shoulders above Adam's current work.

Walking Dead: 61-78

Been a while since I've read any WD and I'd sort of drifted away from it but these issues have really been some of the best of the run - hope they adapt them to the TV show eventually.

I'm up to TPB 10. I should be hitting these issues soon.

Yes, it leads me to wonder if Mike thought the story lines in the first issues were perfectly normal. :wonder:

New Avengers 1-10: best part so far is the flashbacks to the 1950's Avengers but it's been a solid run up to now.

Avengers Academy 1-10: Quality stuff, adding to the work done in Avengers Initiative, and making generally unknown characters as interesting as any of the long term Avengers.

Secret Avengers 1-10: Shang-Chi, the Nick Fury clone from the bronze age Defenders classics and the bloke who was Captain America before Steve Rogers. Shame that Brubaker is leaving as this has been up to his usual excellent standard.

Avengers 1-10: Some dull time travel nonsense and some Infinity Gem pap has turned this into what looks like a bad X-men story, with too many characters (Red Hulk ) and not enough interest.

X-men 1-6 Curse of the mutants is not terrible, but not really of great interest. They're trying to make Cyclops look like a great leader, but considering he resurrects Dracula to take down his own son, then defeats Dracula's son anyway allowing Dracula to simply step in an run the show, not that smart.

Uncanny x-men "quarantine" Not bad.

Uncanny X-force. Mostly hack and slash with little character development, but for the most part delivers what it promises.

X-factor. Really enjoying this. Action, fun, interesting characters and somewhat light hearted. Good read.

New Mutants. Good reading. Like it when they give good writers freedom to work.

Wolverine 1-6 "Wolverine Goes to Hell." Ridiculous story with few endearing features

Looking forward to "Fear Itself"

Wow, someone actually reading X-Factor - sounds interesting. I'm debating on Fear itself although the reviews for it have been good. I just finished:

Carbon Grey by Image. I actually enjoyed this book. Great art and story.

Blue Estate by Image. Didn't like this one. I did go to their website which I didn't really care for either.

From ther I ended up on Fresh Ink (another link), which has reviews of current comics (G4TV.com) - which I enjoyed. The review on The Walking Dead peaked my interest - the current issue kills one of the only surviving main characters (or do they)? May have to start reading this one again.

Perhaps we should do an issue by issue review for Fear Itself, posting what's happening and what we think of it?

Has anyone else had a chance to read the first issues for the Atlas relaunch?

I thought all three were very well done. If I had to put them in order though, I'd put Grim Ghost third, Phoenix second, and Wulf at number one (imo, it was an exceptionally well written and well drawn comic book). All three have me anticipating the #2 issues.

Nice job Atlas. :applause:

I just picked mine up this week (along with getting the #0 issues through the mail) and hopefully will read them this weekend.

Looked at Wulf at a shop yesterday. I didn't read it but the art didn't appeal to me at all. Not that it is bad but it didn't jump out at me. I like Niles but I had to give it a pass. Didn't look for the others.

Here's another book I haven't really followed but after taking a quick look at it - I couldn't pass it up because of the artwork inside it. It has a short preview story in it, but what I really liked was the before and after shots of the covers - especially the black and white work. Here's a scan of the cover and one of the pics inside (really nice work).

I've really enjoyed (so far) the first two issues of Jennifer Blood. Such a badass. 8-)

I'll be reading this comic because it reads well and looks nice, but the completionist in me will not be collecting it. The first issue has a total of nine covers and the second has eight.

That's Dynamite for you. They finally cut the variants on Red Sonja down to two (sometimes three). Sky's the limit on other series though. As bad as people think Marvel and DC are for variants no one comes close to Dynamite and Avatar. Dynamite and Avatar might not exist if they didn't have the 4 million variants per issue.

When I stopped collecting in the late eighties, variants were not even a thought in my head, to the point where I wonder if they were really prevalent (maybe I missed the 90's craze by that much). When I started back collecting in 2007, I loved them. Since then I've really had to calm down my "total" completionist mentality. Filling up a short box trying to complete a five issue limited series gets a little pricey... but I guess money is what it is all about.

I just got in the mail the TPB volumes 1-10 of Y: The Last Man. I'm on #4 and I forgot how much I enjoyed this series.

Currently im reading:

The Boys
Jennifer Blood
Hack/slash
Fear itself

I really love the boys and jennifer blood seems pretty badass so far, I've been gettin the jonathan lau covers but only out of preference as DeadOne said with the huge amount of variants i don't think ill be going the completist route.

Just finished up Bendis & Oeming's "Powers: The Collected Hardcover vol. 1"

It was a slow starter but once I got about 2-3 issues into it, the storyline started picking up. In the end, I'd say it made for a nice break from what I normally read. I do like Oeming's style and Bendis is usually more hit than miss, but there were a few moments when the writing felt a little too cliche. Additionally, I found that there were a few instances when the artwork was clearly being reused in a few spots--not something I've noticed from Oeming in the past. At first, I thought it was the team being a little "lazy" in reusing previous frames, but then it began to come across more as an artistic decision (and one made most likely by Bendis) to simulate a sort of... film noir "feel" to the book. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. However, Oeming's style is VERY reminiscent of Bruce Timm's "Batman the Animated Series" approach but a bit grittier and less polished--which worked considering this is a detective noir novel.

Retail is $30 but I nabbed it at 40% thanks to a Borders coupon. For the price, it was a good buy and one I'd recommend. Now, on to "Alan's War" by Emmanuel Guibert...

I read all of Powers not too long ago. Love Oeming's art. I actually used to own the cover to Draw Magazine #5, but sold it ages ago since it wasn't from the actual series.

Well... you'll be disappointed to know the image (of the detectives) was used on the hardcover of vol. 1 :(
