Just ordered it through eBay, looking forward to it really. I'm not too sure what Adams' writing will be like, but it will be damn good to see his artwork on a Bat title again.

I made a special trip to the LCS to find it sold out. :argh: He only ordered 12 copies. Guess I'll have to get one through ebay. I love paying shipping that cost more than the book. :yipeeeee:

That's where I got mine from, I'd rather pay a little shipping premium to get a nice copy than got to Forbidden Planet and buy a battered copy. Come to think of it, getting one shipped is virtually as cheap as buying from FP anyway.

I'm going to try a different LCS today. If it's not in, I'll mail order.

Although, I am breaking my own cardinal rule -- no miniseries, one shots and special event books. :((

Finally picked up a copy Saturday and read it yesterday.

The art was good, but certainly not 70's Neal. The page seemed crowded... very dense layout. As you can see on the cover, I can't help but think that there is a trace of Jim Lee in the mix. I think most Adam's fans will like it, but it's not going to be like seeing a 70's era page.

The story was good with lots of dialog, which I like. It actually took me about 15 - 20 minutes to read it -- more than double the time for most moderns.

By the way... the guy at the LCS mentioned that this was 5 years in the making and was originally intended to be the second arc on All Star Batman and Robin. Is this true?

That wouldn't surprise me one bit you know. It's the first I've heard of it but I suppose it would make sense. Is it in continuity Steve? I haven't read mine yet.

Not sure... hard to tell from the first issue. From what I can tell, much of the story will probably be a flashback to when Wayne first started being Batman.

I read it last night and really didn't like it. I know it was Adams art, but it felt very disjointed and rushed for the most part, except for a few panels which brought back all of the old glories.

As for Neal Adams the writer, that's something I could definitely live without. The story had no flow, the dialogue just didn't fit, there was a lot that seemed out of character and the whole book just didn't sit well. I seriously doubt I'll carry on buying the series to be honest.

Now that David Finch is taking on the new Bat title 'The Dark Knight', it makes me wonder how many artists are actually going to start taking up writing? We've had it with Tony Daniel (whose run on Batman I actually quite enjoyed), Neal Adams and now Finch.
It akes me worry as I love all three artists work, but when Adams churns out a story like that it makes me fear the worst for what Finch is going to offer up.

Should artists stick to art and let the writers do the writing? Except maybe Liefeld?

I reread it with a more critical eye after reading Gav's comments.

My second assessment is not as good as the first.

Again, by today's standard I don't think it was "bad," but there are a some painful panels. The sequence on top of the train is not good and the dialog is clunky. One panel in particular of Batman without the mask on and the wind blowing his hair is awful.

It does not flow as well as it should... and I really don't like the panels where people have these huge round eyes... looks kinda silly.

If you see the previews section at the back it shows some art from upcoming issues. A few images of crying people with torrents of water streaming down their faces. Not good.

ManBat was absolutely atrocious in his final panel. He really looked like something out of a Jim Carrey movie.

I stopped reading at issue #3. I couldn';t even make it through the whole issue. So confusing and convoluted...

The art wasn't great... but no matter how good it wouldn't have been enough to salvage the story.

Sadly, I preordered through issue #6 I think... I'll probably end up selling for 50 cents each.

You'll have to give people money to take them off your hands.

I'll wrap them in newspapers and hide them in my recycle bin. Hopefully they will slip through undetected. It's like trying to illegally dispose of flourescent bulbs or old paint cans in your garbage.
