I guess I understand the restoration grade, but I still believe they are great books with great history!

No doubt about it. And the nice thing is, you can probably pick them up at a fraction of untrimmed price. Thing is to develop a sense of what looks trimmed when it's raw, or in a PGX slab, which isn't as dependable as a CGC slab. :peace:

Nooooo! I just have a collection of scans of trimmed books, simply as illustrations. Some are more obvious than others certainly. Some are really well done and would need to be examined under a loop to tell.

I carried a number of trimmed books in my own collection for about 20 years ... I picked them up at NYC Cons in the early 80's. I ended up selling them on eBay, as trimmed of course (with full disclosure). Here is one of the more obvious examples ... but in 1982, what did I know? Of course, I also thought the book was NM+++ until I learned how to grade.

One tip would be that the interior pages should never protrude above the cover on the top edge!

Exactly. It's obvious to me now, of course. I posted the ASM 14 and other images on the CGC boards and got a lot of help at the time from collectors.

There are of course several Ebay sellers who love to buy trimmed CGC slabs, wait a few months, and then sell them raw on Ebay as untrimmed. One of Dupcek's favorite ploys under his many Ebay monikers.
