Anyone else get the email from Heritage offering the Overstreet Guide e-book download for $30?

:wtf:

Since when is the e-book MORE expensive than the paper? Would they rather sell 10 at $10 each or zero at $30 each? :screwy:

So I'm guessing you compared them and there's no difference in content? Also, does the download come without the advertisements (they would have to make the money up somewhere)?

Where I live the hard copies sell out fast at the LCS. Some how I got a hard cover copy but not the one I wanted.
So I think the OSPG does very well that they could lower the download price.
On top of that the Bronze Age list is a joke. GL #76 is still #2 ranked  and some of the books on that list should of priced higher from last year's and some of the this year's sales before printing time.

I just buy the hard cover, read it and use it. I do like the idea of a download but not for $30.00.

I haven't been able to compare them because I'm not paying $30 for a download. If it was $15 or under, I'd go for it. However, the ad does not mention any difference from the print edition.

Whether it has the ads or not, I'm not sure it makes any doifference. E-delivery is so low cost, it's a huge stretcjh to thimk you'd needa $30 download to meet costs and reap any sort of profit.

My sense is the download cost so much because they think it will completely erode the print edition sales if the download was significantly less. :dunno:

If that is the case then they should make e-books of the old copies for really cheap.
Like hard copies of a comic compared to the digital copies, there will always be collectors who will buy the hard copies to collect and use the digital to read it. So they will not lose any money and infact that should give buyers of the hard copies a free download of the e-book.

So if you are going to have to pay $30 for an e-book copy than just buy the hard copy for that price or cheaper. Then you can sell it to someone who might collect/need that copy  and you still win.
I doubt people on Ebay will pay top dollar for a flash drive with an OSPG e-book on it.
"Hey John, I just payed $80 for a flash with the OSPG #6 e-book that has a Spirt cover done by Will Eisner and I'm going to flip this baby in a few months for 3x what I paid." :getit:

That makes sense, kinda.

Honestly, I've about given up on Overstreet, as it's so far off base on the GA books I collect. I was buying it every other year, but my last one was in 2009. I'm about 50/50 whether this will be another 'skip year'.

Don't bother. The Bronze Age prices are off too.
I would only buy it if you collect OSPG or for research.

Personally, I find a paper copy of OSPG to be a lot more convenient than a digital copy would be. A digital copy would have to be significantly cheaper to stand a chance of tempting me.

I got the email from Heritage as well, but I had already pre-ordered a hard copy. I wouldn't pay more for a digital copy.

I'm old school but in this case I'm leaning toward a digital copy. I like the idea of a search function and not having another text book taking up space on my shelf.

I would like to see a digital copy that was upgraded on a consistent basis in real time; perhaps users could subscribe and then be able to log in and check pricing in real time. That would be cool.

Doubt that. There prices are now will be way off.
Comicpriceguide.com don't really do that unless you have some good solid proof and still don't change prices. I try that for the price variants sale I find  and like OSPG they ignore most of the changes.
I'm going the Donut way and will pay top OSPG prices for any Price Variant, heck I'll do the CPG prices too :getit: .

Hi, I am up in Washington DC area this week. Yes, I actually bought some comic art and hung out by the Indie Island. My nephew wanted to get Stan Lee to sigh his comic book and we so we picked out a Spiderman 44 and Lee thru in a hug for him. He’s absolutely one hooked 8 year old.

The soft copy of the OSPG is $29.95 cover price, so exactly the same as the download. I think that eroding the hard copy sales is an issue, but taking dollars out of the pockets of LCS must also be on their minds. The LCSs need every penny they can get.

I don't know if Gemstone is really thinking about how they can get money out of the pockets of the LCS. I see it more as they are following the general trend of offering an alternative to the physical book. There are people that like to have the actual book (the group I fall under) and there are people that would opt for an electronic copy if there is one available. I see this more as they are trying to reach the maximum number of consumers.

You know they could just charge a little more, say the two formats (hard cover and electronic) for $45. Then you both feel you are getting the better deal and they circulate their product out into the greater universe. You see this with Antique collectible books and other media more and more. But only for the hard cover since you already pay a premium for that.

Good point about the LCSs, but I think very few people are actually paying $29.95. Through Amazon or DCBS, it's under $20.

I agree. I know you can get DVDs this way as well.

DC does it with some of their new comics too. $4.99 bundles of a single issue that include a 'hard copy' plus an electronic format.
