Hi all,

I am currently trying to source for Batman comics from 1980 - 2006. So far the online comic shops that I deal with have provided really good services and are trustworthy. They are:

1. Lone Star Comics
2. Mile High Comics
3. Metropolis Comics (although they specialize in golden and silver age comics)

Do any of you know which other online comic stores are safe to order from? Would appreciate your help and advice.

Thank you.

Don't buy from Mile High unless you don't care about condition or price. Chuck's notoriously overpriced and not so great at grading.

Honestly? Best place to buy comics is over on the CGC Boards Marketplace.

www.comicanadirect.com - Nick a good guy and tight grader. I recently was looking for some 80s and 90s books and he went through a bunch of boxes for me. I'm not sure if shipping from the UK is cheaper for you or more expensive.

www.highgradecomics.com - Bob is also a tight grader and has a pretty good selection of 80s and 90s Batman comics.

There are many others, but I'd try these guys first. I agree with Mac Man that Mile High is expensive and has poor grading. I stopped buying from them many years ago. Lone Star is also not so great and Metropolis can be good or bad. You are better off with the two I've listed and many others I could also mention.

Thank you for the tip guys.

I mostly deal with Lone Star Comics nowadays. Sometimes, they offer really low prices on certain Batman books. I agree with both of you on Mile High. Comics are definitely overpriced. The last time I dealt with them was a few years back.

It all depends... are you looking to fill a run with books that fall within a range or must every book be a super tight whatever grade?

My experience with Lone Star / MY Comic Shop has been good and I believe they have tightened their grading in the past year or so.

If you are not super picky about the grade being dead on, I would recommend them. When I ordered copper age 9.4s, I got books that ranged from 9.0 - 9.4 in my opinion. I was filling a run with "near mint range" looking books, so I was fine with the results.

They are also a CBCA member, so they abide by our code of ethics.

With Mile High, copper age can be hit or miss. You could get a 9.4 or a Mile High "near mint" could be a 7.0.

High Grade and Comicana are great, but they focus on high end high grade books. They really don't cater to the buyer who is looking to fill a 26 year run, unless you want every book in 9.4 or higher.

I agree with Steve. My recommendations are for tight NM comics. Lone Star and Mile High are great sources for buying large quantities of comics if you aren't picky about the grade.

To be honest, I don't agree with this. Comicana has quite a selection of mid grade and even some low grade raw books and when I met Bob Storms of Highgrade Comics this weekend, I bought a stack of lower grade and some mid grade books. I think that both of them are worth thinking of when looking for these books, especially since they are two of the most reliable graders in the business.

I didn't think they participated in that space, but good to know. :righton:

I only buy from one online source, Doug Sulipa's Comic World. Shipping and mostly too high of prices at US sites has forced me to stay exclusively local. I also will not touch a graded book now nor do I trust CGC on either their grading or professional opinions on what is and isn't acceptable for grades and restoration.

Thanks for the link. :righton: If you have any other good recommendations, I'd like to check those out too.

The CGC board has some nice books and someone just listed a large run of Batman in the SA/BA forum. I still buy books on Feebay as well. What can I say, I've gotten more "nice deals" than "bad ones" on the bay - but only through patience. Most of my collection is mid grade so I stay away from the high grade sites, mainly because I can't afford the nose bleed prices. I did buy a few raw books from My Comic Shop (lonestar?), that were graded pretty well and made my one and only purchase from C-Link (expensive when you add in the fees).

I buy mostly from Comic Link and the CGC Boards. Once in a while I buy a hard-to-find item from Heritage. I don't do a lot with dealers and the only ones are Bob Storms (www.highgradecomics.com), Jim Payette (www.jamespayettecomics.com), Nick Beckett (www.comicanadirect.com) and Brent Moeshlin (www.qualitycomix.com). I do some lower value items on eBay and with other dealers. The one I want to try is Doug Sulipa, but his website is terrible. I guess I need to send him a wantlist.
