Memory Lane
MEMORY LANE
I have been collecting for over twenty years. Certainly my knowledge and “sophistication” has grown over the years. So, you want one of those memories from my early days of “collecting”? One of those embarassing moments...
I had always been a big fan of Spider-man when I was in high school. When I was about 23 I happened by a spinner rack and saw a Spider-man comic and picked it up. It rekindled alot of pleasant memories. In the back was an ad for old comics. I could not believe that such things were for sale. The ad was from Robert Bell (whose plastic bags still show up from time to time). He happened to live in Hauppauge Long Island which was about half an hour from where I lived. I went over to his house and made my first (of many) purchases from him. I can still remember the warm fuzzys when I plunked down $50 and finally purchased the first issue of Spider-man and some other single digit issues. I was ecstatic. Boy, was I going to take good care of these treasures. No sir, nothing was going to happen to these beauties. So to protect them, I carefully, oh so carefully, taped the spines of each book...
